Shorts | Friday June 11th 2021

I was chatting to my nan the other day and she said this and it stuck with me. It’s a phrase that’s been used in songs and poetry and quoted by many famous people. It’s certainly true though.

Nan, you’re wonderful 🖤

the raven queen

“The Raven Queen had grown accustomed to her unkindness.”

A flock of ravens is generally referred to as an ‘unkindness’.

I think the term stems from their association with death, witches and the like.

Ravens (and witches, for that matter) have never been anything but cordial during the interactions I’ve had with them, so I don’t see why we treat them with such disdain.

Anyway, this is a Shorts post for ravens, witches, deities of death and D&D lovers alike. You do you, boo 🖤

HITRECORD: A Collaborative Resource For Creatives

A friend of mine loaned me a book called The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories recently and I absolutely adored it! It reminded me a little of the Shorts I post right here on this blog each week. Anywho, upon reading more about it and how it was written, I stumbled across an online community for creatives called HITRECORD. I’m probably late to the party as HITRECORD has been around for quite a few years now, but I figured I’d send the word out to others who missed the initial HITRECORD hype. If you’re a creative of any and all backgrounds/specialties and you’re interested in learning about this awesome collaborative initiative, read on…

Understanding Empaths: A Catch 22

An empath in a fictional setting is defined as a person with the paranormal ability to perceive the mental or emotional state of another individual. In the real world, being an empath isn’t so much paranormal as it is rare, mystifying and even perplexing to some. There’s nothing paranormal to fear about it, it’s more of a 6th sense (but with little to no involvement from Bruce Willis)…

Just Another Awkward Encounter (And A Slight Brush With Fame)

Yeah, so these posts are why most people come here. For some reason people enjoy basking in the second-hand awkwardness that my day to day life seems to revolve around. I mean, I kind of enjoy it too because I’ve now accepted the fact that this is my life and I can have a bit of a laugh at how skittish I feel around literally everyone around me. This encounter took place at a recent live gig in Sydney’s Factory Theatre. The band: Holy Holy. They’re tops, by the way, if you’ve not yet heard of them. Anyway, here’s the story…

Jester Lavorre Cosplay Tutorial

Hello, hello! Today I’m sharing a super simple Jester Lavorre cosplay tutorial based on the recent costume I put together for the Sydney Oz Comic-Con Pop-Up 2021. This Critical Role (from the mind of Laura Bailey) inspired character cosplay was a lot of fun to make and could honestly be done pretty easily by cosplayers of all skill levels. I’m a beginner myself, so it goes to show that you can make amazing stuff if you use a little imagination and a little help from friends. Enjoy…
